Pepperwolf and Lucia Smith will present a PowerPoint talk and video designed by WAMM-Ground All Drones to introduce and clarify the legal, political and ethical ramifications of the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones by the U.S. Up-to-date information will be provided defining the two-pronged drone program of the U.S. (1) The surveillance and weaponized drones used in recognized war zones by the US army and navy, and (2) Drones used for targeted killing, without due process, under jurisdiction of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). Interactive discussion with class participants will examine the conflicting reports of civilian casualties of drone attacks and long-range effects of drone activity on international relations.
Pepperwolf is an active member of the WAMM-Ground All Drones Committee. She currently is employed as Director of WAMM. Pepper previously taught in elementary schools. She has a MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas and a BA in Art Education.
Lucia Wilkes Smith is secretary of the WAMM Board of Directors and chair of the WAMM-Ground All Drones Committee. She teaches writing through Minneapolis Community Education. Lucia has a MFA in Creative Writing from Hamline University and an MA in American Studies and a BS in English Education from the University of Minnesota.
