-Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities in the City St. Paul

Community issues of concern:
Advocating Change Together – ACT for Equity February 2012 – Present (7 months) We will examine the Steps and decision-making processes already in motion and include persons with disabilities (PWD’s) to bring about an equitable perspective on transportation, (LRT in the Central Corridor) economic development (jobs), housing and safety.

Paulsen and Company 1994 – Present (18 years) Responsible for day to day operations. The development of new programs for disabled, elderly, and homeless.

Reason for joining this Committee:
1991-Testified in front of Sen. Linda Berglin regarding the medical use of marijuana
1992-Began speaking and developing with Sen. Metzen on Disability and Sensitivity Curriculum, which resulted in creating and organizing Disability Awareness Day (‘92-‘99)
1994-Paulsen & Company became a visible non-profit which represents and advocates for People with Disabilities and Seniors through out MN and SD
1998-Ran for Lt. Governor under the 3rd party “Grassroots Party”
2000-Ran for City Council in South St. Paul
2002-Ran again for City Council in South St Paul
2006-Moved the offices of Paulsen & Co to St. Paul
2007-Started a specialized food shelf for the disabled and elderly who have special diet needs

• Employed thru the Secretary of State as a Voter Outreach Disability Specialist
• Partners in Policymaking graduate
• Hosted Town Hall Forum for MN-CCD in South Minneapolis
• Started a Self-Advocacy program for Gillette Lifetime Patients
• Member of the Consumer Advisory Committee of Gillette Lifetime Clinic
• Advised on Gillette Lifetime’s Project Development Team on Executive Brain Function
• Volunteered as a Disability Advisor for John Marty for Governor
• Creating and managing a disability centered public policy blog “Capable Minnesota” http://capablemn.blogspot.com/
• Spoke at a Welfare Rights Rally at the opening of 2012 MN Legislative Session
• Spoke at several press conferences at MN State Capitol in partnership with MN-CCD
• Member of the Transportation Accessibility Advisory Committee (TAAC) under the Metropolitan Council
• served for 2 years and is the Vice Chair
• Founding member of ADAPT Minnesota
• elected Co-Facilitator and Communications Team Member
• Citizen lobbing on several issues including: disability, transportation, jobs, education, bullying, etc.
• Currently employed thru Advocating Change Together (ACT) as a Community Organizer specializing in ensuring People with Disabilities can live, work and play in the surrounding areas of the Light Rail
• Board member of TASP, as of October 2012
• Board member of MN-CCD, starting in January 2013
